Families with Special Needs
Are you stressed, overwhelmed or depressed taking care of a special needs child or adult? Is the time and energy to care for your child causing conflict, anger or resentment between you and other familiy members? Are you having trouble keeping the peace with or between your children?
How I can Help: I specialize in working with families who are struggling with the many challenges of raising a child with Autism or other intellectual disabilities. I have over 22 years of experience in working directly with special needs kids and adults, in multiple settings. My philosophy is to work directly with the entire family on strengthening pre-existing coping skills, learning new coping skills, and teaching you how EACH family member has a UNIQUE and IMPORTANT role within the family unit.
Working with Kids Struggling in the School Setting
Is your child struggling in school, emotionally, socially or academically because of the academic or social pressures? Is your child’s behavior “out of control” and you don’t know how to help them? Are you struggling with your child’s emotional and /or behavioral outburst?
How I can help: I have worked in the school setting providing therapy to kids struggling socially and emotionally. I also managed a School Base Mental Health Team. Both have given me a great deal of experience on the challenges kids face in this day and age. I provide individual and or family therapy to kids who are struggling academically due to learning disability and/or mental health diagnosis (ADHD, Oppositional Defiant, Conduct Disorder, Depression, Anxiety, etc.).
Traumatic Loss and/or Complicated Grief
Have you experienced a traumatic “loss” and feel as if no one understands what you are going through? Has there been a death in your family causing you to have a difficult time supporting other family members while going through the grieving process yourself? Has your spouse or partner recently died and you are not sure how to help your kids who are also grieving?
How I Can Help: For over 12 years I have been a member of the City of Los Angeles Crisis Response Team and have worked with people that have experienced a traumatic event or a traumatic “loss”. As the Mental Health Coordinator and Training Coordinator for the team I now train other crisis responders how to provide immediate on-scene crisis intervention to help people who have experienced a traumatic event. I utilize this real world experience when supporting individuals and/or families in the therapeutic setting.
